Kenny Mansally, Ready to Take Step Forward at Left Back

mansallyMeet Real Salt Lake’s newest addition: Kenny Mansally. After a steady stream of unfamiliar additions in the last six months, this one may be a name you’ve heard before. While he never really established himself as a starter in his 5 seasons with the New England Revolution, the 23-year old did play in 89 matches while there. However, there’s something new and different that you may recognize about the former Rev, and it’s not just the uniform that he’ll be wearing. It’s the position he’ll be playing. While the speedster was featured exclusively at forward in New England, he’ll be suiting up at left back for RSL.

“When I came here, I came for left back,” the Gambian international told Keepin’ It Real Soccer on Friday. “That’s what I’m working for. I played in the reserve game and the last 20 minutes they played me at forward but otherwise I played left back.”

According to Mansally that’s more of a natural fit for his game.

“I feel more comfortable playing left back because on my national team that’s what I play,” he explained. “Most of the time if I play left back I [have] one of my best games. For me to come to this league playing forward, I like to go forward and score goals, but I prefer playing left back and then go forward.” Continue reading
